Project: “I, an Oltenia-Based Peasant, Need an Education!”
Project funded by SEE 2009-2014 Grants, within Romania NGO Fund
The value of the non-refundable financing: 215.015,58 Euro

Some of the recreational activities proposed during the project “I, an Oltenia-Based Peasant, Need an Education!”, concentrated on promoting the national values and traditions. The best way in which children understand the importance of preserving national traditions is by meeting the craftsmen who keep traditional art alive.

During 6th to 11th September, 108 children from Goiești and Fărcaș, along with representatives from beneficiary schools and Adina Stiftelsen Foundation, „set out fully charged”. The purpose of the 2 days trip was to visit Ocnele-Mari, Stoenești, Râmnicu Vâlcea and Horezu, places known internationally for the beauty of Romanian traditional objects.

The first day children visited Ocnele-Mari salt mine, had lunch at a restaurant in Râmnicu Vâlcea and after went to see how traditional Romanian costumes are made at a weaving mill in Stoenești. They spent their evening having fun at the playground owned by the hotel in Horezu where they spent the night. The second day children learned to make pottery vessels at pottery workshops in Horezu.

This beautiful experience was a success. Children had a lot of fun, talked, played but they also learned many things regarding methods and techniques for crafting traditional Romanian objects. Equally important is that during this trip, children gained society behavior skills, like eating at a restaurant, simple hygiene rules, using the shower, sharing the room with colleagues.

For most of the children, (almost 70%), this was the first trip of their lives. Therefore, children can better describe the charm of the trip: „Incredible”, „Wonderful” or „It's magic”.
